As of 30 March 2020

We Care 2 wishes to advise that we are continuing to provide our services at 225 Main Street Urraween with some necessary changes as follows:

Emergency Relief – food vouchers, pharmacy vouchers, fuel cards and other non-financial assistance (NOT accommodation) – appointments for Tue, Wed & Fridays must be made by phoning 41240913 Mon-Fri 9am-2pm. Food vouchers are issued for our Extra Choices Low Cost Food Support Centre – not supermarkets. There is a limit to the number of times that a client can access this service, however, in this time of crisis we have discretion to relax this restriction if it is deemed appropriate. We have complied with the social distancing rules by moving our Emergency Relief appointments into a different part of our building.

Extra Choices Low Cost Food Support Centre- operates from Mon-Fri 9am-2pm – anyone receiving a Centrelink benefit or Seniors Card can join for a $5 annual membership fee which will entitle them to shop at our Centre. At the moment we are still operating as per usual with social distancing and hygiene rules in place and we are also limiting the number of customers in the shop to 10 at any one time.
Currently most of our products have limits on them and even during normal times we exercise limits on some items so that we can spread the benefit to as many of our customers as possible. It is our desire and intention to continue this service as long as we have stock of food and are allowed to keep our doors open. EFTPOS is available and encouraged at the moment.

In the event that we can’t continue to keep our doors open for any reason other than not having food supplies, we have developed a contingency plan to allow EXISTING Extra Choices members ONLY to order and pay for a food hamper over the phone. We have divided Hervey Bay into 5 areas which will receive a hamper delivery once a week. This service will rely heavily on the continued availability of volunteers to pack and deliver hampers.

Unfortunately our resources will not allow us to provide this delivery service until such time as the shop has to be closed to our walk in customers.

Food van community breakfast- hot breakfasts for the homeless & needy at Apex Park Esplanade Pialba on Mon, Wed & Fri mornings. From Friday 27 March this service will change to a drop off of hot meals in foil containers to Apex Park between 7- 7.30am. Plastic cutlery and serviettes will be supplied but patrons will be discouraged from gathering. It is our desire and intention to continue providing this service to these at risk members of our community for as long as we possibly can.

Counselling – Our fully qualified Counsellor will continue to see clients in our office, however, she will also be conducting phone counselling if clients are self-isolating. Appointments can be made by phoning the office on 41240913

We will keep providing updates as further changes become necessary. Up to date information is also being posted on our Facebook page.
